Nepal Health News, Kathmandu: A separate ward will be established at the Shahid Dharmabhakta National Transplant Center for health check-ups of workers returning from foreign employment.
This decision follows a recent statement by Health and Population Minister Pradeep Paudel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he emphasized the need for treatment and mental health counseling services for Nepali migrant workers. In response, the Shahid Dharmabhakta National Transplant Center has decided to begin implementing these services.
According to the center’s Executive Director, Dr. Pukar Chandra Shrestha, a separate free OPD (Outpatient Department) ward will be established specifically for returnee migrant workers. He stated that anyone who has returned from foreign employment will be able to visit the center and receive health check-ups free of charge.
In addition, the center will assign specialist doctors to orientation training programs organized by the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security for outgoing workers. These doctors will provide information on non-communicable diseases and preventive measures. The center has also decided to provide informative materials on non-communicable diseases to the Foreign Employment Board.
Furthermore, to address health issues that arise while abroad, the center will assign on-duty medical officers to offer consultations through a separate hotline number and social media platforms.
Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki stated that the Ministry believes these measures, once implemented, will result in both preventive and curative improvements in the health of migrant workers, helping reduce the current health problems being observed.
