Nepal Health News, Kathmandu – Due to a fire that broke out on Saturday at Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj, Banke, all services except emergency care have been suspended for two days – Sunday (today) and Monday (tomorrow).
According to Dr. Nirajan Subedi, the hospital's Medical Superintendent, the fire started in the medical store located in the hospital's OPD building. The room contained daily-use medicines, equipment, and other medical supplies. The fire caused severe damage to the OPD, medical store, and pharmacy.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was triggered by an electrical short circuit in a refrigerator located in the hospital’s vaccine store. It is initially estimated that the damages amount to around 30 to 40 million Nepalese rupees.
Although the fire was brought under control through the joint efforts of the police, fire department, and hospital administration, most of the medical supplies were destroyed. Many medicines, equipment, and laboratory materials have been lost.
As a result, the hospital has decided to suspend OPD services, lab tests, and other regular healthcare services on Sunday and Monday. However, emergency services will continue to operate as usual, the hospital administration confirmed.
Dr. Subedi mentioned that the assessment of the damages is ongoing and it may take a few days for services to resume. The hospital has apologized for the inconvenience and requested the public to seek alternative healthcare services in the meantime.
