Nepal Health News, Humla – Pushpa Bohara Bhandari, a 16-year-old girl from Thehe, Simkot Rural Municipality–2, was airlifted out of the district this morning by a Nepali Army helicopter after her condition became complicated more than one and a half months before the onset of labor.
According to doctors, an initial examination at Humla District Hospital showed that Bhandari had abnormally high blood pressure and her pregnancy was in a complicated state. Dr. Pratiksha Bharti, Head of the Health Services Office in Humla, stated that the fetus was not in a normal condition, with the head in the wrong position. Due to the lack of necessary equipment and skilled manpower, she had to be urgently referred to Surkhet.
The rescue operation was carried out under the President Women Upliftment Fund Program. Based on the recommendation of the District Hospital, Bhandari was flown to the Provincial Hospital in Surkhet via helicopter in coordination with Simkot Rural Municipality, the Health Services Office, and the District Administration Office. She is currently undergoing treatment there, with preparations underway for surgery.
Health workers have said that in recent years, such rescue systems have played a vital role in saving the lives of pregnant women in emergency situations in remote areas like Humla.
