World Eye Health Conference in Kathmandu, inaugurated by Prime Minister Oli

Nepal Health News, Kathmandu – The international conference of leading global eye care organizations, Insight Live, Nepal, has begun in Kathmandu today. The three-day conference is organized by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB).

The event was inaugurated by Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, who stated that the Government of Nepal has introduced a new national strategy to integrate eye health into primary healthcare services. He emphasized the government’s commitment to its effective implementation.

Around 500 delegates are participating in the conference, including representatives from international organizations, hospitals, academic institutions, and professional associations working in the field of eye health. According to Yuddha Dhoj Sapkota, Regional Director of IAPB for South-East Asia, the conference will have participation from nearly 100 countries.

According to Shailesh Kumar Mishra, Executive Director of the Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh (NNJS), the conference will focus on eye health policies leading up to the year 2030. Bharat Bahadur Chand, General Secretary of NNJS, expressed hope that the conference will help internationalize Nepal’s eye care services and promote tourism.

Currently, under the Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, there are 28 eye hospitals, 160 treatment centers, and 45 district branches in operation. Since its establishment, the organization has treated over 43.6 million patients and performed more than 5.1 million eye surgeries.
