After not receiving payment, Bharatpur Hospital issues a warning: Insurance services to be halted from Jestha

If insurance payments are not received, preparations are underway to halt insurance services from Jestha

Nepal Health News, Chitwan – Bharatpur Hospital is preparing to halt all treatment services provided under the health insurance program starting from Jestha (mid-May) due to non-payment.

According to the hospital's director, Dr. Mesu Paudel, the hospital has not received a single rupee from the Health Insurance Board in the current fiscal year, which has severely affected the services provided by the hospital. He stated that repeated requests for payment over time have been ignored.

Issuing a warning, Dr. Paudel said, “If at least 250 million rupees is not paid by the end of Baisakh (mid-May), we will be forced to stop providing services under the insurance program from Jestha.”

He further informed that around 600 million rupees is still due to the hospital, which is causing serious difficulties in purchasing medicines, paying staff salaries and allowances, and running other services.

Due to this financial shortfall, the hospital has already shut down 24 types of laboratory tests. Patients now have to pay out of pocket for tests like Vitamin D, Calcium, Folic Acid, and Vitamin B12.

About 70% of the patients visiting the hospital currently use health insurance services. The hospital has been demanding about 70 million rupees per month under the insurance scheme.

Dr. Paudel emphasized, “It’s not enough just to run the program; the necessary budget must also be provided. Without funds, there is no alternative but to shut down the services.”
