Health Minister's Roar: Affiliation of Medical College to Be Cancelled

Health Minister's declaration to cancel the affiliation of the medical college

Nepal Health News, Kathmandu – Minister for Health and Population, Pradeep Paudel, has warned that the affiliation of private medical colleges will be revoked if the decision made in the 16th meeting of the Medical Education Commission is not implemented.

During a discussion on Friday at the Ministry of Health with representatives of the Nepal Medical Association, Minister Paudel urged for the prompt implementation of the commission’s decision. He stated that complaints had been received about some medical colleges threatening resident doctors, and made it clear that such behavior would not be tolerated.

“There is no benefit in defying the commission’s decision,” said Minister Paudel. “If the decision is not implemented, we will proceed with revoking affiliations.”

Resident doctors have been protesting, saying that the decision made two weeks ago by the commission has yet to be enforced. They are putting pressure on various health institutions, demanding immediate implementation.

The Nepal Medical Association has also been urging the government to ensure the safety of doctors. The ministry has stated that it will begin an investigation process. However, private medical colleges have claimed that they will fully comply with the decision made by the 16th meeting of the Medical Education Commission, and will provide resident postgraduate students with a monthly stipend of NPR 48,737 as per the decision. Despite this, doctors continue their protest, claiming the amount is equivalent to that of the 8th pay scale.
