Nepal Health News, Kathmandu:COVID-19 infections appear to be rapidly increasing once again. According to international news sources, infections in Hong Kong alone have risen by 30 percent in the past week. Similar situations have been observed in China and Thailand as well.
In Hong Kong, 1,042 new cases were reported in the week leading up to May 10, 2025. In the previous week, this number was only 972. Back in the first week of March, the number of cases was just 33. Since then, the infection rate has been continuously rising.
The positivity rate (infection rate) has also increased significantly. Before March 1, it was just 0.31 percent, but by April 5, it had risen to 5.09 percent. In the week leading up to May 10, it further increased to 13.66 percent, according to reports.
A similar trend has been observed in Singapore. In the week leading up to April 27, around 11,100 infections were reported, which rose to 14,200 by May 3—indicating about a 30 percent increase in just one week.
Infections have also been reported in Australia. Australian cricketer Travis Head, who recently traveled to the country for the Indian Premier League (IPL), has tested positive for COVID-19. Due to the infection, his return to the IPL has been delayed, according to Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Daniel Vettori.
These reports indicate that the risk of COVID-19 is not yet over, and the need to take precautions remains as important as ever.
