Kathmandu Metropolitan City has launched a campaign to make citizens healthy through yoga

Nepal Health News, Kathmandu – Promoting a healthy lifestyle, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has launched a special campaign called Arogya Jeevan (Healthy Life) to expand yoga practice within the community. Under this initiative, yoga camps are being conducted in various wards in a phased manner, where participants are guided to practice yoga based on specific health conditions.

Organized by the Health Department of the metropolis, these camps provide training to local residents on the importance of yoga for physical and mental well-being, along with practical sessions. Each camp runs for five days, starting from Ward No. 14 on Baisakh 14 (April 26). Since then, the program has been completed in Wards 12, 15, and Dharahara, and preparations are underway to launch it in Wards 31 and 23.

On the final day of the camp, participants undergo blood pressure and diabetes tests, and are provided free Ayurvedic tonic medicines such as Triphala Churna, Ashwagandha, Chyawanprash, Aamalaki, and Mahanarayan Oil. According to Senior Vaidya Parvati Rawal, these medicines are believed to strengthen the body and boost immunity.

Vaidya Inspector Manjushree Thakur reported that high blood pressure is commonly observed among the participants. In addition, expert doctors offer consultations on improving lifestyle habits related to diet, daily routine, and mental balance.

The metropolis aims to train ward-level yoga instructors and establish regular yoga and exercise practices at the community level. According to the municipality, the main objective of the program is to raise awareness among citizens before diseases strike, thereby reducing medical expenses, mental stress, and physical suffering.
