Nepal Health News, Kathmandu: With the onset of the monsoon season, the Ministry of Health and Population has intensified its preparedness to prevent potential outbreaks of epidemics. Health Minister Pradeep Paudel held a meeting with the heads of related branches and departments under the ministry, directing them to remain vigilant in time.
“The monsoon has already started,” Minister Paudel stated during the meeting, “and since waterborne and vector-borne diseases may spread, preparations must begin immediately.” He emphasized the importance of proactive measures this time, pointing out that in the past, attention was often paid only after disasters had already occurred.
The minister stressed the need to launch mosquito control programs to prevent the spread of dengue. Similarly, he instructed officials to immediately implement public awareness campaigns and health safety measures to prevent diseases such as diarrhea, fever, and typhoid, which tend to spread after rainfall.
Furthermore, in light of the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in neighboring India, Minister Paudel informed that surveillance at border areas would be strengthened and that coordination among all three levels of government is ongoing to ensure necessary management.
Officials attending the meeting emphasized the need to make the epidemic fund more effective and to develop a system that provides swift relief to people during crises. According to the Ministry’s spokesperson, Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, a decision has been made to soon hold a coordination meeting among all three levels of government to extend epidemic control efforts down to the ward level
