Flow Cytometry Testing Begins at Chitwan Cancer Hospital: No Need to Send Samples to India Anymore

Nepal Health News, Chitwan – The BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Chitwan has launched an advanced flow cytometry testing service to detect variants of blood cancer. The service has begun following the installation of equipment and training of doctors and technicians.

According to Dr. Greta Pandey, Head of the Hospital’s Laboratory Department, over 90 patients have already undergone the test. Previously, samples had to be sent to India, but the test is now available locally in Chitwan for NPR 12,000.

Flow cytometry testing involves extracting bone marrow to identify the type of blood cancer. One doctor and one technician were trained at Tata Memorial Hospital in India before the service was launched.

According to Executive Director Dr. Shivaji Paudel, equipment expansion and staff training programs are being rapidly advanced to make cancer treatment more effective.
