Nepal Health News, Kathmandu – Bhaktapur Hospital, with a history of 101 years, has been declared the best among all hospitals in the country.
Under the hospital management strengthening program, during the public event for the Minimum Service Standards (MMS) evaluation, Bhaktapur Hospital secured the first position by scoring 90 out of 100 points.
Bagmati Province Health Minister Kiran Thapa stated that Bhaktapur Hospital has ranked first for the fourth consecutive time and emphasized that staff must work with integrity to maintain the hospital’s quality. He also mentioned that the ministry has allocated a budget of NPR 10 million for the operation of neurology services and that dialysis services will begin within a month. Furthermore, he announced that a budget will be arranged in the upcoming fiscal year for the reconstruction of the old building.
Provincial Health Secretary Dr. Sumitra Gautam noted that this hospital, the second oldest in the country with a history of 101 years, has succeeded in becoming the best. She highlighted the dedication of staff, the support of the management committee, and the importance of protecting the hospital from negative influences to ensure all hospitals can provide quality services. She also mentioned that daily reports from all 13 provincial hospitals can be monitored via the Bagmati Health App.
According to MMS evaluation team coordinator Associate Professor Roshni Tuitui, Bhaktapur Hospital has become the top hospital among B-level hospitals with a capacity of 300 beds in the country. She expressed that Bhaktapur Hospital should now be developed into an institution.
Lumbini Provincial Hospital secured second place with 89 points, and Bharatpur Hospital came in third with 88 points. Under Bagmati Province, Dhading Hospital scored 82 points, and Trishuli Hospital scored 81, placing them second and third respectively.
Acting Director of Bhaktapur Hospital, Surendra Prasad Bhatt, shared that there has been a significant increase in services and patient inflow compared to the previous year.
Bhaktapur Hospital was established in 1961 B.S. (1904 A.D.) by then-Rana Prime Minister Chandra Shumsher J.B.R. Initially known as "Chandralok Dispensary," it is Nepal’s second oldest government hospital after Bir Hospital. At the time of its establishment, the hospital had 15 beds, which has now been expanded to 75 beds
