Nepal Health News, Kathmandu: The organization of health workers close to CPN-UML, the National Health Workers' Federation, is moving towards selecting its new leadership through an election. Although efforts to reach a consensus continued until the third day of the federation’s fifth national convention, inaugurated by Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Saturday, no concrete understanding has been reached yet.
According to the outgoing General Secretary of the federation, Dr. Santosh Paudel, discussions are ongoing to reach an agreement on leadership selection, but the formal process of candidate registration has not yet officially started. The presidium has requested claim letters from aspirants for various posts, and accordingly, leaders have already submitted their claims for different positions.
Five Aspirants for the President Post
For the president position, five candidates, including the outgoing president Dr. Jhalak Gautam, Ramhari Dhakal, Jagat Nepali, Bhimaraj Singh, and Trilokchandra Gurung, have submitted their claims.
Intense Competition for Vice President
For the open vice president post, Dr. Santosh Paudel and Pushparaj Khanal are competing.
For the women’s vice president post, Rupa KC, Sharada Khanal, and Anju Basnet have submitted their claims.
Competition for General Secretary and Deputy General Secretary
For the general secretary position, outgoing deputy general secretary Amrita Baral and another leader Madan Oli are competing. For one deputy general secretary post, Anup KC and Khagaraj Pokhrel have submitted their claims.
Nine Candidates for Secretary
For four secretary posts, nine candidates have submitted their candidacies. The contenders include Prashant Acharya, Siddh Dhungana, Chandra Sunar, Prakash Sewa, Dharmendra Yadav, Sushil Shahi, Quran Ali Thakurai, Harilal Acharya, and Rajkumar Paudel
