57 non-operational hospitals to be revived, thanks to the Health Minister's initiative.

Nepal Health News, Kathmandu – Under the leadership of Minister for Health and Population, Pradeep Paudel, preparations have begun to bring 57 hospitals—constructed across the country but not yet operating at full capacity—into operation starting from the upcoming month of Shrawan (mid-July).

While reviewing the pending plans from the previous fiscal year, the Ministry has also expedited efforts to build additional hospitals in the new fiscal year. However, many of these hospitals have remained non-operational due to past constructions being carried out without proper standards. To address this issue, the Basic Hospital Operational Standards 2082 has recently been formulated.

Strategic planning is now underway to ensure proper provision of human resources, equipment, medicines, and other healthcare supplies from the central government for local hospitals with capacities of 5, 10, and 15 beds.

Accordingly, Minister Paudel has formed a task force under the coordination of Dr. Krishna Prasad Paudel, Head of the Ministry’s Policy, Planning, and Monitoring Division. This task force will develop clear guidelines on how these hospitals can be brought into operation through coordination among the federal, provincial, and local governments.

According to Ministry spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, approximately NPR 1 billion has been allocated for the upcoming fiscal year. With this budget, it is expected that these hospitals will finally be able to deliver services to the public effectively.
