Nepal Health News, Kathmandu – The Ministry of Health and Population has intensified preparations to deploy additional healthcare personnel across federal hospitals in Nepal. According to a recent report presented by the ministry, more than 2,000 technical staff will be appointed to hospitals in the coming years.
This plan has reached the implementation phase following collaboration with the Ministry of Finance under the leadership of Health Minister Pradeep Paudel. Based on an "Organization and Management Survey" conducted by a task force led by Joint Secretary Rishi Acharya, a total of 2,102 new positions have been deemed necessary.
Under this plan, Bir Hospital will receive the highest number of additions, with 777 personnel, including 90 for the Trauma Center under its jurisdiction. Among other major federal hospitals, Kanti Children’s Hospital is set to get 78, Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital 173, and Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital 317 additional staff.
Regionally, Koshi Hospital will get 172, Narayani Hospital 318, Bheri Hospital 179, Gajendranarayan Smriti Hospital 144, and Bharatpur Hospital 465 new personnel. Dadeldhura Hospital will add 52, while the Department of Drug Administration and its laboratories will receive 40 new staff.
During the report handover program held on Monday, Minister Paudel highlighted that the shortage of human resources has long hindered effective service delivery in government hospitals. He expressed confidence that this initiative will improve the quality of healthcare services.
Additionally, the plan is expected to assist in transitioning temporary and contract-based workers into permanent positions. This is the first time since 2009 that such a comprehensive human resource management survey has been conducted.
The initiative is also expected to significantly enhance service delivery for the growing population and contribute to employment generation.
