Minister Paudel stated, "We will create an environment where citizens can access medicine at a reasonable price

Nepal Health News, Kathmandu: Health and Population Minister Pradeep Paudel has been handed a report with recommendations on drug pricing and adjustment. The coordinator of the committee formed to ensure fair medicine prices, Dr. Poshraj Pandey, presented the report at a program organized at the ministry today.

Minister Paudel stated that there had not been an in-depth study on drug pricing in the past and that some medicines were found to be excessively priced. As the need for price adjustments was realized, a committee was formed.

"Our priority is to create an environment where citizens can access high-quality medicine at a reasonable price," said Minister Paudel. He expressed his commitment to implementing the report professionally, commercially, and procedurally.

The committee has suggested price adjustments based on regional factors and the nature of medicines—whether regulated, imported, essential, or outside regulation. It has also provided clear guidelines on generic drug pricing.

Health Secretary Dilliram Sharma stated that studies are underway to implement the report. The committee has proposed establishing a separate pricing unit and an adjustment committee within the ministry.

Additionally, the committee has recommended that drug prices be reviewed every two years. Coordinator Dr. Pandey mentioned that the report was prepared based on practices in neighboring countries, expert recommendations, and consultations with stakeholders.

Minister Paudel has given a clear indication of ensuring drug prices remain transparent, scientific, and timely while keeping the public informed.
