Nepal Health News, Nepalgunj – MD-level studies are set to begin at Bheri Hospital, Nepalgunj, starting from the upcoming Nepali month of Asar. According to the hospital’s Chief Medical Superintendent, Dr. Nirajan Subedi, MD programs will commence from the second week of Asar in the departments of Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology, and Orthopedics.
Under this program, two students each will study MD in the Medicine and Surgery departments, and one student each in Gynecology and Orthopedics.
A prior agreement has already been made between Bheri Hospital — the major referral hospital of western Nepal — and the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) for the operation of MD/MS programs, and the necessary faculty members have also been appointed.
Dr. Subedi stated, “The MD/MS program will bring qualitative improvements in the hospital’s service standards. With academic activities running alongside medical treatment, the overall standard of the hospital will significantly improve.”
There had long been plans to offer MD/MS studies at Bheri Hospital in Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Anesthesia, Radiology, ENT, and MDGP. However, those plans had not succeeded in the past.
Currently, NAMS is preparing to send a total of six students to study MD/MS in four subjects at Bheri Hospital. Once the program begins, Bheri Hospital will be developed as a constituent hospital under NAMS.
Bheri Hospital, under the federal government, serves patients from 24 districts across the Mid-Western and Far-Western regions of Nepal. The chairman of the hospital development committee, Birendra Bahadur Shah, expressed confidence that the hospital’s reputation will be further strengthened after the start of MD/MS programs.
Similarly, committee member Dr. Daktaprasad Dhital said, “As specialist services expand, the initiation of MD/MS education marks an important step. With the government’s decision to recruit an additional 179 personnel, the hospital is set to become the top service provider in this region
