Visit of the House of Representatives Health Committee to Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital: Hopeful Signs Toward Service Improvement and Development Plans

Nepal Health News, Kathmandu – A team comprising the Honorable Chairperson and members of the Health, Education, and Information Technology Committee under the House of Representatives conducted an on-site visit to Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital today. During the visit, the committee members engaged in direct dialogue with the hospital administration to gather detailed information regarding hospital services, infrastructure, challenges, and future development plans.

During the visit, the hospital’s Executive Director, Dr. Ujjwal Chalise, briefed the committee members on the hospital's current service status, available manpower, modern treatment technologies, daily patient load, budgetary conditions, and more. Dr. Chalise emphasized that government support is crucial for the treatment of complex diseases like cancer and highlighted the need for greater policy-level attention to expand advanced services at the hospital.

In addition to gaining firsthand insight into the hospital’s service delivery and challenges, the visiting MPs, including the committee chairperson, discussed possible areas of necessary policy support in the near future. The lawmakers expressed that the federal government’s role in enhancing the hospital’s services should be more clearly defined.

Dr. Chalise expressed his heartfelt thanks, stating that such a high-level visit reflects the state's concern for the hospital. “We are very encouraged by this active participation,” he said, “and believe it will positively impact the hospital’s services and infrastructure development in the coming days.”

Future Plans and Challenges

Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital is planning to further enhance its services in the near future by incorporating advanced technologies in radiotherapy, chemotherapy, palliative care, and pediatric cancer treatment. However, a lack of skilled manpower, insufficient budget, inadequate physical infrastructure, and limited government prioritization are delaying the implementation of some of these plans, according to Dr. Chalise.

The hospital expects the government to make special efforts toward increasing its annual budget, constructing well-equipped buildings, and managing high-level human resources.

Message from the Committee

After the visit, the committee chairperson praised the hospital’s dedication and assured that the federal government will provide support as much as possible. “Health care is a fundamental right of citizens, and strengthening such a hospital is our responsibility,” the chairperson stated.

Conclusion

This field monitoring visit by the Health Committee is seen as a positive sign for Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital. The hospital management and staff appeared optimistic that such policy-level visits will contribute to concrete support for the hospital’s future development
