A new record was set as 1,717 people donated blood at a single location

Nepal Health News, Chitwan – A total of 1,717 people donated blood during a one-day blood donation program held in Bharatpur. The campaign, organized on Saturday by the Chitwan branch of the Blood Donors Society Nepal, saw significant participation from all seven local levels of the district.

Out of the total blood collected, 1,536 units were stored at the Nepal Red Cross Society’s Provincial Blood Transfusion Center in Bharatpur, while the remaining 181 units were safely kept at the Bharatpur Hospital Blood Bank.

Organizers believe that this special campaign, held to mark World Blood Donor Day on June 14, will help reduce the shortage of blood often seen during medical treatments. Although many people are eligible to donate blood, most do not take the initiative. According to program coordinator Ekaraj Burlakoti, this extensive campaign was conducted to spread a positive message throughout society.

This event has been recorded as the largest single-day, single-location blood collection event in Nepal. According to publicity committee coordinator Bipin Pathak, a similar attempt was previously made on Falgun 25, 2074 B.S. (March 9, 2018), at Tundikhel in Kathmandu, where Lions Club and others had collected 1,500 pints of blood.

The organizers stated that such programs will continue in the future with the aim of increasing public awareness about the importance of humanitarian acts like blood donation. (RSS)
