Demand for Transparent and Merit-Based Appointments in Health Institutions: Dr. KC

Nepal Health News, Kathmandu – Professor Dr. Govinda KC, who has long been campaigning for reforms in medical education, has expressed concern over the increasing political interference in the appointment of officials in academic institutions.

In a press statement, Dr. KC stated that prioritizing political party cadres over qualified individuals in appointments has led to a decline in the quality of education. According to him, universities and academic institutions, which should serve as centers of quality education, are now becoming platforms for political gain.

For the past two decades, he has consistently demanded that appointments to academic positions be made based on merit and qualifications. In line with this, he has once again urged the government to ensure that appointments to important posts such as Vice-Chancellor are based on competence and merit, rather than political recommendations.

Dr. KC has also called for the passage of the Higher Education Act, the transformation of medical education institutions into non-profit entities, the establishment of government medical colleges in Ilam, Udayapur, and Dadeldhura, and the formulation of laws related to an integrated health sciences institution.

He urged the government to immediately implement previous agreements and warned that if these demands are ignored, he will be compelled to resume his non-violent protest (Satyagraha).
