Nepal Health News, Bhaktapur. Today marks Guru Purnima, a special day to honor and express gratitude toward mentors and teachers in the field of medical science. On this auspicious occasion, Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital has taken a historic step forward by introducing modern equipment to provide more effective and advanced services to its patients.
On 26th Ashar 2082 (Nepali Calendar), under the leadership of the hospital’s Executive Director Dr. Ujwal Chalise, three senior specialist doctors — Senior Neurosurgeon Dr. Basanta Pant, Senior Gastrointestinal Surgeon Prof. Dr. Sunil Kumar Sharma, and Dr. Romeo Kansakar — jointly inaugurated various state-of-the-art medical equipment.
The hospital has now installed a cystoscope, endoscope, operating neuromicroscope, and C-arm X-ray system. With the use of these tools, procedures such as cystoscopy, endoscopy, and neurosurgery can now be performed more smoothly, safely, and efficiently. These machines are expected to bring revolutionary changes in the diagnosis and treatment of tumors in the stomach, bladder, and brain.
Dr. Chalise shared, “We are now capable of diagnosing diseases accurately at an early stage, without waiting for the condition to become critical. This will significantly improve treatment outcomes.”
According to him, the hospital’s core goal is to provide affordable, accessible, and reliable treatment to all types of cancer patients. With the installation of these machines, procedures that previously required patients to travel to major hospitals or even to India can now be done right in Bhaktapur.
The inauguration event was further highlighted by the presence of renowned experts in neurosurgery, urology, and gastroenterology — Dr. Basanta Pant, Dr. Sunil Sharma, and Dr. Romeo Kansakar. These doctors not only observed the new machines but also shared insights with fellow medical professionals on their potential applications and benefits in treatment.
Dr. Pant noted, “With the installation of the operating neuroscope, we can now perform intricate brain surgeries more precisely, which will significantly enhance the quality of life for our patients.”
Though located within the Kathmandu Valley, Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital has long been contributing to cancer care. In recent years, however, the hospital has made notable progress in expanding its infrastructure, introducing specialized services, and embracing modern technology.
Under Dr. Chalise’s leadership, the hospital has added several new services and departments within just the past year. Among these, the recent addition of modern equipment is a key milestone under the hospital’s Vision 2085 plan.

The new services will provide particular relief in the early detection and treatment of cancer, especially bladder cancer, gastrointestinal issues, and brain tumors. The cystoscope will allow clear examination of the urinary tract and bladder. The endoscope will ease the inspection of the stomach and intestines. The operating neuroscope will enable complex brain and spinal surgeries. Meanwhile, the C-arm X-ray machine will allow real-time imaging during surgeries, improving accuracy and safety.
This inauguration on the sacred day of Guru Purnima has brought a new ray of hope to patients of the hospital and sent a positive message to the entire cancer treatment system in Nepal.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Chalise said, “We are committed to using technology in the service of the people. Our goal is to establish Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital as a national center in the near future.
