Political parties in Dharan object to the decision to remove BP Institute from the service center

Nepal Health News, Dharan: Local political parties in Dharan have drawn the attention of the Health Minister regarding the removal of B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) from the list of primary service centers under the Health Insurance Program.

The Insurance Board reclassified BPKIHS as a referral center instead of a primary service center, effective from Shrawan 1 (mid-July), prompting political parties to protest the decision. In response, major political parties in Dharan submitted a memorandum to the Health Minister through the Area Administration Office on Sunday, urging reconsideration.

Leaders involved in the initiative include Shyam Pokhrel from Nepali Congress, Harkajung Awaing from CPN-UML, Uddhav Limbu from the Maoist Centre, Tajub Limbu from Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, and Rewati Raman Rai from CPN (Unified Socialist). They jointly stated that BPKIHS is the only reliable government-level health service provider in Dharan, and therefore, it is essential to reinstate it as a primary service center.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, a protest was organized in Dharan under the leadership of the Maoist Centre, Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, and CPN (Unified Socialist), which saw significant participation from the general public.
