Up to 130 seats in MBBS and 60 seats in BDS: Decision to increase the number of seats in medical colleges

Nepal Health News, Kathmandu – The Medical Education Commission has decided to increase the number of seats for the MBBS and BDS programs. A meeting held at Singha Durbar under the chairmanship of Prime Minister and Commission Chairperson KP Sharma Oli reviewed the previously set seat limits and decided to increase them.

According to the new decision, the number of MBBS seats will be increased to a maximum of 130, up from the previous limit of 100. Similarly, the seat limit for the Dental (BDS) program has been raised from 50 to 60.

According to a member of the commission, this increase will only be implemented for medical colleges that meet the required infrastructure, qualified manpower, and other academic standards.

The member said, “The seat allocation will be based on the college's preparedness and quality. Additional seats will only be granted if standards are met.”

Among the institutions receiving the highest number of seats are Birat Medical College, Chitwan Medical College, and the College of Medical Sciences (Bharatpur), each of which will be allowed up to 130 seats. Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara will be granted 120 seats.
