Mahat attempts to return as Registrar; 53 employees submit 13-point objection and warn of protest

Nepal Health News, Jumla: The reappointment process for the Registrar position at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences, Jumla, has become controversial. Fifty-three employees of the academy, including the Vice Chancellor who is also the Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Pradip Paudel, have submitted a letter of concern opposing political interference in the Registrar appointment.

They have expressed objection to the potential reappointment of former Registrar Nripendra Mahat and have warned of protests. The letter of concern has also been sent to the Prime Minister and Chancellor of the academy, KP Sharma Oli, for awareness.

The employees have accused Mahat of decisions and behavior during his previous tenure that were detrimental to the institution. They have listed serious allegations against him in 13 points, including abuse of power under the guise of position, irregular actions, and oppression of staff.

The letter states, “The attempt to reappoint based on political power centers is a matter of concern. Such reappointment could seriously affect the dignity, progress, and stability of the institution.”

Former Registrar Mahat’s term ended some time ago. Since then, he has been politically lobbying to return to the same position. During his previous tenure, he was involved in various controversies. Even at the time of his appointment, there were allegations of political interference. The then minister’s decision raised questions about the appointment process.

Meanwhile, Mahat has denied the allegations, claiming that the signatures are forged. “All the signatures are fake, and those involved in this should be punished,” he said. Amid growing dissatisfaction within the academy and the potential for protests, this issue seems poised to take a more serious turn.
