77 more health worker positions scrapped in Gandaki

Nepal Health News, Kathmandu – According to the new Organization and Management (O&M) structure passed by the Gandaki Province government on Sunday, the highest number of position cuts have once again come from the health sector.

This time, 77 health worker positions have been scrapped, while previously, on Shrawan 26 (early August), 57 positions in the health sector were removed.

In total, the provincial government has now eliminated 134 health worker positions from the health sector alone.

Although the government claims that this decision was made in the name of cost-cutting and streamlining the system, it has sparked criticism over the potential negative impact on health services.

Concerns have especially been raised by health workers and local governments, warning that staff shortages in rural health centers will likely worsen.
