In Parsa, the cholera outbreak is out of control, with the number of infected nearing 200

Nepal Health News, Parsa:In Parsa district, the number of cholera patients continues to rise daily, even before the outbreak is brought under control. The epidemic, which has been spreading for more than one and a half weeks, shows no signs of stabilizing, indicating a serious public health crisis.

According to data released by the Birgunj Metropolitan City at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, a total of 176 people have been affected by cholera within the metropolitan area.

According to Pokhariya Hospital, 17 patients out of those who came for treatment of diarrhea have been confirmed to have cholera.

Combining data from both areas, a total of 193 people have been infected with cholera across the Parsa district so far.

Up until now, 899 patients showing symptoms of diarrhea and cholera have visited various hospitals in Birgunj. Among them, 791 have returned home after treatment, while 108 are still undergoing treatment in different hospitals.

Although the rate of new cases and recovery seems nearly balanced, the daily emergence of new infections remains a serious concern for the health sector.

In an attempt to prevent the spread of the infection, the metropolitan city has closed all educational institutions in Birgunj for the past week. However, despite multiple efforts to identify the source, the root cause of the cholera outbreak remains unclear. Although there was initial suspicion about issues in the drinking water system, lab reports have not found cholera bacteria in water supplied by the water supply office or in deep boring sources. This has increased uncertainty regarding the source of the infection and has spread fear and suspicion among the public.
