During the gen-z movement, 15 health institutions in the provinces and local levels were completely destroyed, and 37 suffered partial damage

Nepal Health News, Kathmandu — As a result of the movement led by Gen-z, 15 health institutions across various provinces and local levels in the country have been completely destroyed, while 37 institutions have suffered partial damage. The health centers outside the federal government’s structure were most affected, with Madhesh Province experiencing the greatest impact.

According to preliminary data collected by the Department of Health Services, the highest number of damaged health institutions—9 in total—are in Madhesh Province. Following that, 8 institutions were damaged in Bagmati Province. However, the department reported that no health institutions were affected in Karnali and Gandaki Provinces.

Dr. Abhiyan Gautam, head of the Vaccine Division, stated that 13 of the damaged institutions were related to vaccine services and cold chain systems. He highlighted the potential for serious disruption in vaccine storage and distribution systems.

Significant damage was also caused by fire at the health branch of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City. Ram Bahadur Chand, head of the health branch there, reported that the medicine storage center and other health offices were completely destroyed by fire.

Most of the damage during this movement was concentrated from provincial health ministries down to local municipal offices. This has caused serious disruption to the operation of local health services.
