Nepal Health News, Kathmandu – Starting today, World Immunization Week has officially begun. On the same day, International Girls in ICT Day is also being observed globally through various programs. Both these observances are celebrated annually worldwide under the initiative of the United Nations.
The main objective of Immunization Week is to raise awareness among the public about the importance of vaccines and to encourage all age groups to build immunity against diseases. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 154 million lives have been saved through vaccinations over the past five decades. Vaccines have led to a 40% reduction in infant mortality, with 60% of the lives saved attributed to the measles vaccine.
Vaccinations have been instrumental in protecting children, adolescents, pregnant women, and the elderly from diseases such as influenza, tetanus, malaria, HPV, and more. This year, the week is being observed under the theme: “Vaccines for All, Possible as a Human Right.”
Likewise, on the occasion of International Girls in ICT Day, special programs are also being held. Centered around the theme “Girls in ICT for an Inclusive Digital Transformation,” discussions will take place both in-person in Kyrgyzstan and Mauritania, as well as virtually.
