Nepal Health News, Kathmandu – TikTok, a popular social media platform among users, has launched a new service aimed at strengthening mental health. Users can now engage in mindfulness practices directly within TikTok using meditation-focused content, which is expected to help improve sleep quality, manage stress, and support emotional balance.
In line with this new service, TikTok has announced the launch of a global Mental Health Education Fund worth approximately NPR 300 million. The fund will collaborate with 31 organizations across 22 countries to deliver reliable mental health information to the public.
A Digital Experience for Peaceful Evenings
Under this new feature, users can easily access calming meditation content during nighttime hours. These mindfulness sessions are specifically designed to help reduce daily stress, particularly when used before bedtime.
According to the company’s policy, this feature automatically activates after 10 PM for users under 18. During this time, meditation-related videos appear on their message feed. If they continue scrolling, a second meditation screen appears, which is not easily dismissible.
Encouraging Initial Results
Early testing by TikTok revealed promising outcomes, with 98% of teenage users opting into the feature. Adult users can manually activate nighttime meditation sessions by adjusting their time management settings.
TikTok's Focus on Social Responsibility
Beyond its mindfulness initiative, TikTok has also taken the lead in various social responsibility efforts. These include parental monitoring tools for child safety, expansion of educational content, programs that inspire interest in science and technology, and a messaging system to help locate missing children.
Spreading Awareness Across South Asia
Open discussions around mental health are becoming more common in South Asian countries. Even in nations like Nepal, the culture of understanding and talking about mental well-being is gradually growing. TikTok’s South Asia Head, Asma Anjum, said, “Mental health used to be a difficult topic to discuss openly. But as awareness spreads, we are seeing positive changes in behavior.”
TikTok’s mindfulness initiative and financial investment are expected to positively impact people’s mental well-being and digital lifestyles. Through collaboration between technology, communities, and non-profit organizations, this effort holds the potential to become a vehicle for social transformation beyond entertainment.
